Hello!

Welcome to my workshop; my place to explore, test ideas and just write.

I’m a peruano-americano that mostly grew up in Mexico DF, Bogota and Hong Kong. I studied at the University of Michigan and have worked and played in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, London and Singapore.

I live in wonderful Taipei with my wife and 3 daughters. We came from Hong Kong in February 2020. Unintentional covid refugees. I wrote an essay about that, here.

Activities I love while doing: reading, cycling at sunrise, piano practicing, conversing, board games, being with my family

Activities I love after doing: writing, cold showers, weight training

Utopia I want to be involved in: Make Taipei the most bike and walk-friendly city in Asia (already a top contender), the first city in Asia with swimmable rivers and the first city in Asia to impose a city-wide speed limit of 30 km/hr (but with a carve-out for road-bikers; some speed experiences are sacred).

Issues that interest me: debt bubbles, property bubbles, blindness, deafness, power politics, legal fraud, fake liquidity, glory from conquest, carbon neocolonialism, the new Great Game, low-end automation (as in, for textile factories), copper, nickel, beautiful subversion, pollution, undersea high voltage direct current, demographics of innovators, ESG but mostly just the SG, the parallels between Italy and Taiwan (particularly when it comes to engineering, mafia, beauty, bureaucracy, and great food).

Previously: a portfolio manager, M&A advisor, listed company CFO and company founder.

Currently: Director (of the corporate, not creative variant; though I do sit on an audit committee), consultant, mostly related to energy companies and credit situations

My favorite radio station: WBGO

Goal: make this &%#ing thing weekly.
